Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP has visited Storehouse Kitchen in Ripon, meeting Head Chef and business owner Iain Wilkinson to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing independent hospitality businesses across North Yorkshire.
During the visit, Julian heard about the pressures currently facing the hospitality industry, including VAT costs, rising business expenses, energy prices and wider employment challenges. Mr Wilkinson has been a vocal advocate for support for the sector and previously contacted Julian regarding the impact that current tax and operating costs are having on independent businesses.
Storehouse Kitchen has established itself as a popular destination in Ripon, employing local people and contributing to the city's vibrant hospitality offering.
Commenting after the meeting, Julian said, "It was a pleasure to visit Storehouse Kitchen and meet Iain. Independent hospitality businesses are at the heart of our communities, creating jobs, attracting visitors and contributing enormously to local economies.
"I appreciated the opportunity to hear about the challenges facing the sector and the impact these issues are having on local businesses. I will continue to raise concerns affecting local employers in Westminster."
