On Tuesday, 23 September, South Craven Sixth form had the opportunity to visit Parliament for an interactive tour in the Place of Westminster followed by a workshop and Q&A session with their local MP, Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP.
The students met Julian in the Education centre where they had undertaken a workshop, and were able to play out their hustings, representing 4 different parties in front of him, before they took the opportunity to ask him a variety of questions regarding Political leaders, parties and how to get involved with politics. As well as taking some time debating Brexit and the pros and cons of leaving the EU. Julian also asked the students about their plans post education, and was pleased to hear about a range of options being pursued, from signing up to the Army, to journalism, fashion design, international relations and business studies.
Commenting on the visit, Julian said, "It was great to meet the enthusiastic students from South Craven Sixth form during their trip to Westminster. Their insightful questions and passion shown is a great example of how students need to be in the working world, and we discussed the importance of good communication in all areas of life."
