On Monday, 10 March, Gargrave CofE School and Skipton Girls High School had the opportunity to visit Parliament for insightful tours. During their respective visits, the students met their local MP, Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP.
The students from Gargrave CofE School met Julian in Westminster Hall and posed a variety of questions, including queries about Julian's favourite author, his favourite subject at school and his time in Parliament. They also discussed the importance of reading and even speculated about future space travel. Chris Mason, the BBC's Political Editor and Dalesman, also joined chatting with Julian and the students and shared his perspectives.
Following this, the students from Skipton Girls High School had an engaging conversation with Julian in Parliament's Education Centre about his contributions to the constituency since his election. They also discussed topics such as the impact of American politics on UK politics and shared their enthusiasm for matcha tea.
Commenting on the schools' visits, Julian said, "It was great to meet the bright and curious students from Gargrave CofE School and Skipton Girls High School during their trips to Westminster. Their insightful questions and enthusiasm highlight the crucial role of education and active engagement in our democracy."
