Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP is urging constituents to take part in Know Your Numbers Week 2025 (8–14 September), a national campaign led by Blood Pressure UK to encourage people to check their blood pressure.

High blood pressure is often called the “silent killer” because it has no symptoms, but it significantly increases the risk of heart attacks, strokes, kidney disease and dementia. The only way to know if you are at risk is to get checked.

Commenting Julian said, “Checking your blood pressure is quick, simple and could save your life. I strongly encourage residents to take advantage of the free checks being offered locally during Know Your Numbers Week. Please make time to get checked and encourage your friends and family to do the same.”

In Skipton, Ripon and Masham, residents will have access to self-service blood pressure check stations in local libraries. Additional checks will also be available at Craven Leisure & Wellbeing Hub.

Free checks are also available at selected pharmacies for anyone over 40 who has not had a blood pressure check in the last six months. More information about this can be found here.

To find your nearest location, including library and leisure centre times, please visit the North Yorkshire Council website.
