On 27 July, Julian Smith MP attended Armed Forces Day events in Ripon to pay tribute to the work that this country's service men and women do.  Among those he met was veteran Antony Went who works with Help for Heroes in Yorkshire.

There were displays from all the Armed Forces, the Royal Navy, the Army and the Royal Air Force as well as veterans and cadets.

Julian said: "I was honoured to have been asked to present a medal to Antony Went who is a leading light in Help for Heroes in Yorkshire and an inspirational figure. We are very fortunate to have so many members of our brilliant Armed Forces living locally and the events in Ripon and around the country last weekend were a fitting opportunity to pay thanks for the work that they do throughout the world, on our behalf."
