Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP visited the Cancer Research UK shop in Ripon on Friday, 27 June, to meet with Shop Manager Liz Falkingham to show his support for the charity’s life-saving work.
During the visit, Julian heard about the vital role volunteers play in keeping the shops running. The shop, located on on Ripon's Market square, sells donated clothes, books, homeware, accessories, and some new goods to raise funds for life-saving research. Last year alone, volunteers across the UK contributed over 2.5 million hours of their time, helping to raise £28 million to fund pioneering cancer research.
The Ripon shop is one of many across the country that relies on the generosity and commitment of local people to continue its mission.
Commenting, Julian said, “It was a great to meet the fantastic team at the Cancer Research UK shop in Ripon and hear about the difference they are making in our community. These shops are not only vital for raising funds for research but also for bringing people together. I encourage anyone in Ripon who has a few hours to spare to consider volunteering as it is a great way to give back and support a cause that touches so many lives.”
The shop can be found at 26 Market Place West, Ripon, North Yorkshire , HG4 1BN and can be contacted by phone on 01765 690126.
