Students and special guests came together at Craven College in Skipton for the official launch of the college's game changing new construction facilities.

The new development, funded by T-Level capital funding from the Government's Department for Education, was completed in time for the the first cohort of students to use this academic year.

The college says not only does it mean an investment in skills, productivity and growth, it is a proactive response to the demand for workers.

The event - billed Building the Future - was attended by Skipton MP Sir Julian Smith, college leaders and people from the construction industry.

Sir Julian said the college played a vital role in supporting local skills.

He said: "It was fantastic to visit Craven College and see first hand the impressive new construction facilities at the Auction Mart Campus.

"These excellent facilities will make a big difference for local young people, helping them build the practical skills and confidence they need for careers in construction and the skilled trades.

"Speaking with students, it was clear they have real enthusiasm for their learning and take great pride in the high quality work they are producing.

"Craven College plays a vital role in supporting local skills, jobs and opportunities, and I would like to thank Anita Lall, her leadership team, and all the staff for their dedication to students and to the wider community.”

Anita Lall, Principal and CEO of Craven College added: “This facility is an investment in skills, creating and developing skills for today, and building resilience for the future. It is an investment to support our employers and their continued success; it is an investment to support economic growth across our wider region.

“But above all, this investment is for our learners – those studying with us today and those who will come through our doors in the years ahead. It is an investment opportunity that is unlocking potential and changing lives”.

And, Martin Lofthouse, the college's head of construction, said: “In five years our provision for 16 to18-year-olds has grown by over three times to nearly 500 students and it is great to have these facilities to continue to teach as many students as we can.

“I’d like to thank all our sponsors and supports – those who are here, and those who couldn’t join us – who add so much to what we are able to offer.”
