Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP welcomed pupils from the Upper Wharfedale Primary Federation to Westminster on Monday, 16 June, as part of their educational visit to the Houses of Parliament.
The students enjoyed a guided tour of Parliament, learning about its history, democratic processes, and the role of MPs. Following their tour, they had the opportunity to meet Julian Smith in Westminster Hall for a Q&A session.
Julian said: "It was great to meet the pupils from Upper Wharfedale Primary Federation and to take their questions about my role as an MP and current affairs. Visits like these are a fantastic way to bring our democratic institutions to life for young people."
During the Q&A, the children asked a range of questions. One pupil asked Julian what the most difficult decision he had ever had to make as an MP was, while another wanted to know whether he enjoyed being an MP. The group also showed a keen interest in current issues, with one student raising a question about climate change and another asking about the role of the doorkeepers in Parliament.
Julian continues to support educational visits to Parliament and encourages schools across the Skipton and Ripon constituency to take advantage of the learning opportunities available through the UK Parliament Education and Engagement Service.
