On Thursday, 8 May, Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP, expressed his support for the newly secured trade deal between the United Kingdom and the United States of America during a Ministerial Statement in the House of Commons. Julian praised the Prime Minister's strategy of low-key diplomacy and mediation, which has positioned the UK at the forefront of international trade negotiations.
Julian acknowledged the efforts of key individuals, including Peter Mandelson (UK Ambassador to the United States of America), Varun Chandra (The Prime Minister’s Special Adviser on Business & Investment) and various civil servants, whose contributions were instrumental in achieving this milestone.
Julian asked Rt Hon Douglas Alexander MP, Minister of State for the Department for Business and Trade, about practical support for businesses and farmers in North Yorkshire to fully leverage the benefits of this deal.
In response, the Minister echoed Julian's sentiments and highlighted the significant opportunities for British farmers and businesses. He assured that the Department for Business and Trade, in collaboration with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), will work diligently to ensure that all stakeholders are informed and prepared to take advantage of the new market access.
