Skipton and Ripon MP, Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE, has welcomed York and North Yorkshire Mayor David Skaith's newly published Police and Crime Plan for York and North Yorkshire. The plan, covering 2025-2029, aligns closely with the key issues raised with Julian during the recent public consultation.
The plan, formed in consultation with the public, sets out four key priorities: prevention and early intervention, protecting the public, working with partners, and building stronger communities. These priorities address critical issues such as violence against women and girls, antisocial behaviour, retail crime, and rural crime.
Julian said, "It is great to see the launch of the Mayor’s plan with a focus on prevention, early intervention, and working with partners, which is crucial for reducing crime and improving safety. The emphasis on prevention and early intervention is significant, and I am pleased to see the prioritisation of issues such as rural and retail crime, as well as antisocial behaviour, which reflect concerns raised with me by constituents."
