Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP has been updated by Yorkshire Water on local reservoir levels following recent rainfall.
Between the 15th and 21st September, reservoir levels increased by 14.8 per cent, leaving them 45.6 per cent full overall. This is the largest single-week increase in 30 years, with local reservoirs Grimwith and Scar House alone taking in over 5.5bn litres in that time.
Reservoir levels however are 24 per cent lower than average for the time of year, so the hosepipe ban, as well as the Environment Agency’s drought status, remain in place.
Commenting on this, Julian said: “I welcome the recent rainfall which follows the sustained dry period over summer which led to the hosepipe restrictions.
“I will continue to keep local residents informed on water levels and encourage anyone to report any leaks to Yorkshire Water so that the reservoirs have the best chance of refilling as quickly as possible.”
