The Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP visited Share Skipton’s innovative Library of Things on Friday, 18 July, to learn more about the charity’s work in promoting sustainability and community sharing in the heart of Skipton.
Located at 48 Newmarket Street, Share Skipton is a registered charity that allows residents to borrow useful household items—such as tools, kitchen appliances, and gardening equipment—rather than buying them.
Volunteers welcomed Julian for a tour and demonstration of how the service works.
Julian met with Chair Angela Monaghan, volunteers Katie Birks and Zaina Siddique, Project Coordinator Jill Coope, Volunteer Coordinator, Morgan Spicer, and trustees Joanna Powell and Fiona Protheroe.
The group explained how the initiative is helping local people save money, reduce waste, and build stronger community connections.
Speaking after the visit, Julian said: “It was fantastic to visit Share Skipton and see the Library of Things. This is a brilliant example of grassroots community action - helping people cut costs, reduce their environmental impact, and connect with their neighbours. I am grateful for the dedication of the volunteers and the positive impact this project is having on the community.”
