Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP, Member of Parliament for Skipton and Ripon, visited Grantley Hall to meet with the team behind one of North Yorkshire’s most prestigious hospitality destinations.
The visit took place on Wednesday 24th September, where Julian was welcomed by General Manager Nuno César de Sá and members of the Sykes family, owners of Grantley Hall. The visit included a tour of the estate, discussions on the role of luxury hospitality in the region’s economy, and a chance to meet staff and learn more about the Hall’s remarkable transformation.
Grantley Hall, a Grade II* listed Palladian mansion near Ripon, has a rich history dating back to the late 17th century. Originally built by Thomas Norton, the estate has hosted Members of Parliament, royalty, and artists over the centuries. It served as a convalescent home during WWII and later as an adult education college before being purchased in 2015 by Valeria Sykes, who led a four-year restoration project to turn it into a five-star hotel and wellness retreat.
Speaking after the visit, Julian said, “Grantley Hall is a jewel in the crown of North Yorkshire’s hospitality sector, and a significant local employer. It was great to meet the dedicated team and see first-hand the incredible work that’s gone into restoring and running this historic estate.”
Grantley Hall continues to attract visitors from across the UK and beyond, offering luxury accommodation, fine dining, wellness experiences, and a deep connection to Yorkshire’s cultural heritage.
