Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP visited The Folly in Settle on Thursday, 29 January, to meet trustees of the North Craven Building Preservation Trust and hear about their current restoration work and future plans.
During the visit, trustees explained the major programme of repairs now underway at The Folly, supported by national and regional funders. The next phase of essential work, including reroofing, begins in February and continues throughout the year. The Trust is preparing to launch a public appeal to help close the remaining funding gap needed to complete the project.
Julian was also updated on the Trust’s wider work, including plans for the renovation of Zion Chapel and Hall to create a new archive and community space, and the development of Dr Buck’s House as a gallery and long‑term accommodation.
Speaking after the visit, Julian said, “The Folly is one of Craven’s most important historic buildings, and it was great to meet the trustees driving this impressive restoration effort. Their commitment to preserving local heritage and creating new opportunities for local people is fantastic. I encourage everyone across Craven to visit The Folly."
