Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP has visited Bentham Community Primary School to meet pupils and staff and discuss local education issues, including special educational needs provision.
During his visit on Friday 3 July, Julian spent time with pupils and staff, learning more about life at the school and hearing about the work being carried out to support children in the local community.
He also met Headteacher Richard Wright and discussed the opportunities and challenges facing schools, with a particular focus on special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
The visit followed an invitation from Mr Wright after pupils from Bentham Community Primary School visited Parliament earlier this year, where they met Julian and learnt about democracy and public service.
Speaking after the visit, Julian said, “It was fantastic to visit Bentham Community Primary School and spend time with the pupils and staff. I was very impressed by the enthusiasm and confidence of the pupils, and by the dedication of the staff who support them every day.
“I am grateful to Mr Wright for taking the time to discuss SEND provision locally, among other issues. These conversations are valuable in helping me represent local families and schools effectively.”
