Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP is encouraging residents across Skipton and Ripon to take part in North Yorkshire Council's consultation on proposed changes to polling districts, polling places and polling stations ahead of future elections.
The consultation, which runs until 12 October 2026, is reviewing polling arrangements across North Yorkshire following recent boundary changes and community governance reviews. While the majority of polling stations will remain unchanged, a number of communities in the Skipton and Ripon constituency could see changes to where they vote.
North Yorkshire Council says the review is intended to ensure polling arrangements remain accessible, suitable and up to date ahead of the council elections in May 2027. The exercise covers around 800 polling districts and approximately 500 polling stations across the county.
Commenting, Julian said, "Voting is one of the most important ways people can make their voices heard, so it is vital that polling stations are accessible and located in the right places for local communities.
"While many residents will see little or no change, there are proposed alterations in a number of areas across Skipton and Ripon. I would encourage everyone to take a few minutes to review the proposals and share their views with North Yorkshire Council.
"I am particularly keen that residents who may be affected by a change of polling station, or who have concerns about accessibility, take part in the consultation and ensure their views are considered before any final decisions are made."
Residents can view the proposals, maps and consultation documents online and submit their comments directly to North Yorkshire Council. Paper copies are also available at the council offices in Skipton, Harrogate and Northallerton.
