Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP is encouraging residents, community groups and local organisations across Skipton and Ripon to take part in a new survey examining the future of rural bus services.

The survey, launched by York and North Yorkshire Mayor David Skaith, will help inform future decisions about how bus services are planned and delivered in rural communities. It is open to everyone, whether they currently use buses regularly, occasionally, or not at all.

The research is exploring ways to improve rural and coastal transport, including how services could become more reliable, better connected and easier to use. It focuses on five different areas of North Yorkshire, including the Yorkshire Dales, and the Ripon, Richmond and Northallerton area.

Commenting, Julian said, "Good public transport is vital for many people across our rural communities. Whether it's getting to work, education, healthcare appointments or simply staying connected with family and friends, bus services can make a real difference.

"That's why I am encouraging as many people as possible to take a few minutes to complete this survey and share their experiences.

"You do not need to be a regular bus user to take part. If you've faced challenges accessing transport, or if you have ideas about how services could be improved, this is your chance to have your say."

The survey is open until the end of July and includes questionnaires for both individuals and organisations. Responses will help build the evidence base for future decisions on rural bus services across York and North Yorkshire.

There are two short surveys. For individuals (personal experiences of bus services), this can be found here and, for organisations and community groups, here.
