Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE, MP for Skipton and Ripon, has called on the Department for Business and Trade to clarify its timetable for publishing the review of the UK’s whistleblowing framework.
In a written parliamentary question submitted on 10 June 2025, Julian asked the Secretary of State for Business and Trade when the Department plans to release the findings of the review, which was commissioned by the previous Government and conducted by Grant Thornton LLP.
In response, Minister Justin Madders MP confirmed that the report is currently under review and will be published “in due course.”
Commenting Julian said, “Whistleblowers play a vital role in protecting the public interest, exposing wrongdoing, and upholding transparency across sectors. The Government must act swiftly to publish this review and set out a clear path for reform. Delays only undermine confidence in the system and discourage those who might otherwise come forward.”
Protect - one the UK's leading whistleblowing charities which provides a dedicated free and confidential whistleblowing Advice Line - thanked Julian for his question in a post on X stating "Thank you to @JulianSmithUK for this Written Question. We call on the Government to commit to a timetable to release the findings of the Review of the Whistleblowing Framework and to pledge to implement its recommendations."
