Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP is pressing for answers following the closure of Bedale Post Office, which has also led to the suspension of the mobile Post Office service serving Dishforth and a number of surrounding communities.

The closure, which Post Office Limited has attributed to "operational reasons", has left residents facing longer journeys to access everyday postal and banking services.

Commenting, Julian said, "I am aware of the concerns being raised about the loss of Post Office services affecting residents in Dishforth and nearby villages.

"Many people, particularly older residents and those without easy access to transport, rely on local Post Office services for essential day-to-day needs.

"I have contacted the Post Office to seek further information about the closure and to understand what alternative arrangements can be put in place for local residents. It is important that communities such as Dishforth continue to have reasonable access to postal and banking services."

Bedale Post Office previously supported a wide area of communities and also provided the mobile service that called at Dishforth. Residents now face travelling to alternative branches, including Topcliffe, Boroughbridge and Ripon.

Julian is encouraging residents who have been affected by the loss of the service to contact his office.
