Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP has urged the Government to look at obligatory CCTV cameras in bus stations following a series of concerning incidents in Skipton.
Speaking in the House of Commons on Thursday, 26 March, Julian called on Ministers to work with local authorities and regional Mayors on rolling this out.
Responding, the Minister for Local Transport, Lilian Greenwood MP, said the Government has committed to looking at safety in bus stations and assured Julian that Skipton’s specific case would be examined as part of this.

Commenting after the exchange, Julian said: “I have been calling for CCTV at Skipton bus station for months and will be there this week to meet with the police and local councillors on precisely this issue.
“I am pleased that the Minister will look into the specific concerns in relation to Skipton. It is important this is resolved so that residents, commuters and visitors of all ages, and at all times of day or night, can feel safe.”
