Skipton MP, Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE, welcomed sixth form politics students from Skipton Girls’ High School and Ermysted's Grammar School during their visit to Parliament on Tuesday, 25 November.
The students enjoyed a tour of the Palace of Westminster and took part in a Q&A session with their local MP.
During the discussion, Julian spoke about his role as a Member of Parliament, his experience as a parliamentary candidate, and how he balances his time representing the Skipton and Ripon constituency. Students raised important local issues, including concerns about anti-social behaviour in Skipton.
The group also had a special visit from BBC Political Editor Chris Mason, who attended Ermysted's in the 1990s. Chris shared insights into his career in journalism and spoke about his recent trip to South Africa with the Prime Minister.
Commenting Julian said, "It was fantastic to meet such engaged and thoughtful students from Skipton Girls’ and Ermysted's. Their questions on local issues and national politics were excellent, and it was great to see their enthusiasm for public life. A big thank you to Chris Mason for joining us and giving the students a unique perspective on political reporting."
