Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP has met with residents, local campaigners and North Yorkshire Councillor David Noland to discuss road safety concerns around the Corner Fields Estate in Skipton.

The visit followed concerns raised by local parents regarding traffic speeds on The Bailey and the safety of the crossing close to the estate playground. Residents have been campaigning for measures including a reduction in the speed limit and improvements to the existing crossing facilities.

During the meeting, Julian listened to concerns from local families and discussed the steps being taken to improve pedestrian safety in the area. The campaign, led by local parents, highlights concerns that children walking to school face unnecessary risks due to vehicle speeds and the current crossing arrangements.

Julian said, "It was important to meet residents on-site and hear directly from local families about the challenges they face when walking to school. Parents should have confidence that their children can travel safely within their community.

"I want to thank everyone who took the time to attend and share their views. Road safety is a priority, and I will continue to work with North Yorkshire Council, local councillors and residents to ensure that these concerns are properly considered and that all options are explored."

Julian has committed to supporting the campaign which aims to have measures installed at both the Bailey, and road to Embsay, sides of the estate.
