Skipton MP, Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE, met with constituent Tim Forman and North Yorkshire Councillor Andy Solloway on Thursday, 9 October, to discuss infrastructure concerns in the Wyvern Park area of Skipton.
The meeting took place at the Bellway Homes Clifford Gardens development, near the proposed site of the Engine Shed Lane link road. The group walked the area to assess the impact of the missing road connection between Engine Shed Lane and Wyvern Park. The link road, first proposed in 2017 as part of a £4.68 million Skipton Employment and Housing Growth scheme, remains delayed due to flood modelling issues and planning complications.
During the meeting Julian heard concerns from Mr Forman and Cllr Solloway about the lack of progress on the road, which is seen as vital for improving traffic flow, reducing HGV congestion in the town centre, and supporting new housing and commercial developments. The road would also provide direct access to the A629 Skipton bypass, easing pressure on Carleton New Road and improving safety for pedestrians.
The group also discussed the lack of dedicated car parking at the new Wyvern Park play park, which has raised safety concerns among local families.
Speaking after the visit, Julian said, “It is clear that residents and businesses are frustrated by the delays to the Engine Shed Lane link road and the lack of parking near to the Wyvern Park play park. These issues are affecting safety and accessibility and I will continue to raise these concerns with North Yorkshire Council and push for urgent progress.”
