Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP met with Mikey Argy MBE and Nick Dobrik on 3 December leading advocates for thalidomide survivors, to discuss how Parliament can better support those affected by the drug’s devastating legacy.
During the meeting, Mikey shared her personal experience and outlined the urgent challenges facing the remaining 420 thalidomide survivors in the UK, including worsening health issues as they age.
She highlighted the work of Thalidomide Voice, a survivor-led campaign group, and the importance of securing long-term recognition and support.
Commenting, Julian said, "It was great to meet Mikey and Nick and hear about their tireless campaigning for justice and support for thalidomide survivors. The stories they shared underline the extraordinary resilience of those affected and the significant challenges they continue to face as they grow older. I will continue working to ensure their voices are heard."
