Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP is urging residents and businesses across Skipton and Ripon to take part in a public consultation on York and North Yorkshire’s draft Retrofit Strategy.
The strategy, developed by the Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, sets out ambitious plans to upgrade homes, businesses, and public buildings to improve energy efficiency, reduce bills, and support the region’s climate goals. It includes tailored approaches for heritage and rural properties, with input from Historic England.
Commenting, Julian said, “This strategy is an opportunity to improve comfort, cut costs, and protect our environment. It is important that voices from across our constituency, including those in rural, older or listed buildings, are heard to ensure the final plan reflects local needs.”
The strategy aims to retrofit 250,000 homes to EPC grade C or higher by 2038 and 62% of business premises, representing an £8.7 billion investment opportunity.
The consultation is open until 3rd December 2025. Constituents can read the strategy and submit feedback via www.yorknorthyorks-ca.gov.uk/retrofit-strategy/.
