Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP has welcomed the Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) latest assessment of North Yorkshire Council’s adult social care services, which rated the provision as ‘Good’ overall.
The CQC’s inspection, part of its new duty to assess local authorities under the Care Act 2014, found that people in North Yorkshire have access to safe, high-quality adult social care services. The Council scored ‘Exceptional’ in two areas, equity in experience and outcomes, and learning, improvement and innovation, and ‘Good’ in the remaining seven.
Commenting, Julian said, “This is a positive report and highlights the dedication of staff across North Yorkshire Council’s adult social care services. Across its adult social care services, North Yorkshire Council is making a real difference to people’s lives.”
The report praised the Council’s leadership, inclusive culture, and strategic planning, highlighting its commitment to person-centred care and continuous improvement. It also recognised the Council’s investment in extra-care housing, dementia support, and reablement services - 71% of people required no further support after 90 days of reablement.
While the report identified areas for development, including rural access and workforce challenges, it concluded that North Yorkshire Council is well-positioned for continued improvement.
Julian has written to Richard Flinton, Chief Executive of North Yorkshire Council, and to Richard Webb, Corporate Director Health and Adult Services, to formally congratulate the team on their achievement.
