Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP has congratulated schools across the Skipton and Ripon constituency after a large number were recognised with Gold and Platinum School Games Mark awards for the 2024/25 academic year.
The School Games Mark, delivered by the Youth Sport Trust and funded by Sport England, celebrates schools that show a strong commitment to physical education, school sport and encouraging children and young people to be active every day.
The following schools achieved the Platinum School Games Mark:
Christ Church Church of England Primary School; Cononley Primary School; Cowling Community Primary School; Gargrave Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School; Greatwood Community Primary School; Ingleton Primary School; and Kildwick Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School.
The Gold School Games Mark was awarded to:
Askwith Community Primary School; Bradleys Both Community Primary School; Cambian Spring Hill; Carleton Endowed Church of England Primary School; Dacre Braithwaite Church of England Primary School; Embsay Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School; Giggleswick Primary School; Glusburn Community Primary School; Hellifield Community Primary School; Long Preston Endowed Voluntary Aided Primary School; Markington Church of England Primary and Nursery School; Skipton Parish Church of England Primary School; Skipton Water Street Community Primary School; St Stephen’s Catholic Primary School and Nursery; Sutton‑in‑Craven Community Primary School; The Boyle and Petyt Primary School; The Skipton Academy; and Thornton‑in‑Craven Community Primary School.
Commenting, Julian said: “It is fantastic to see so many schools across our area recognised for the work they do to support children to be active and healthy. Regular physical activity is vital for young people’s wellbeing and development, and schools play a hugely important role in making sure every child has the opportunity to take part. I want to congratulate all the pupils, staff and school communities involved in achieving these awards.”
The awards recognise schools that promote daily physical activity, inclusion, and equal opportunities for all young people, both during the school day and through extracurricular sport.
