Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP has called on the Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, to urgently convene police chiefs to review information sharing protocols and assess whether additional resources are needed in light of the recent Huntingdon train attack.

Speaking in the House of Commons during the Ministerial Statement on the incident, Julian paid tribute to the emergency services and train staff for their swift response. Julian urged the Home Secretary to bring together Police Chiefs to talk about information sharing and any further resources they require following recent reports about the run-up to Saturday nights attacks.

Julian also acknowledged past decisions to dilute stop and search powers and called for a review of their use, particularly in comparison to approaches in Northern Ireland.

Responding the Home Secretary praised the coordination between police and emergency services during the Huntingdon incident. She agreed to review information-sharing practices and welcomed further input from Julian. On stop and search, she reaffirmed its value and expressed openness to reassessing powers if operational advice from police changes.
