Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP attended a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) met with Minister for School Standards, Georgia Gould OBE MP - who is responsible for this policy area - to discuss the Government’s new proposals to improve support for children and young people with SEND.
Following a discussion by the Minister and senior officials about the next phase of the Government’s planned reforms, Julian raised local experiences from families, schools and providers across Skipton and Ripon, and emphasised the importance of ensuring that any changes deliver clear, timely and consistent support for children and their families.
Speaking after the meeting, Julian said, “I was grateful for the chance to speak directly with the Minister about the Government's work to improve the SEND system. Families and schools must receive the clarity and support they need, and I will continue to feed in the experiences of constituents to the Government as the plans move forward.”
Julian will continue to engage with local schools, parents and organisations as the Government's consultation progresses. He encourages parents, schools and interested organisations to input into the consultation process.
