Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP was pleased to welcome pupils and teachers from Glusburn Community Primary School to Parliament on 28 January as part of their London visit.
The pupils began their day with a guided tour of the Palace of Westminster, led by Parliament’s Education and Engagement team, where they learned about the House of Commons, the House of Lords, and key moments in British political history. They also participated in an interactive, curriculum-linked workshop in the Education Centre, exploring how Parliament works and how young people can get involved.
During their time with Julian, the pupils asked a range of questions, including whether he would consider banning Mondays or moving to a three‑day week. They also discussed the idea of social media restrictions for young people, an area where Julian expressed his support for greater protections. The students were also keen to know what he enjoys doing in his spare time.
Commenting, Julian said, “It was great meeting with pupils from Glusburn Community Primary School. Their questions were creative and insightful, and it is always encouraging to see young people so engaged with the world around them. I am grateful to the school's staff for bringing them to Parliament as part of their learning.”
