The Burton in Lonsdale community group has secured £300,000 from the UK Government's Community Ownership Fund to purchase and revitalise the village’s pub, The Punch Bowl Inn - which is facing permanent closure.
Local MP, Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE who has supported the group’s bid, welcomed the news commenting, “This is a fantastic achievement by the community of Burton in Lonsdale and I am impressed by the dedication and teamwork that has made this possible.”
The funding is part of the Government’s initiative to empower local communities by supporting vital assets, ensuring that facilities like The Punch Bowl Inn remain locally owned and operated.
The community group is now set to move forward with plans to complete the purchase of the pub.
Julian added, “This project showcases the power of local determination and partnership, and I look forward to seeing the Punch Bowl Inn flourish once again.”
